Your All-Time Favorite Horse-related Purchases/Products

Love these threads, so it would be wrong not to chime in, and I’ve got additions! Leaving aside the big ticket stuff:

  1. Mattes sheepskin / cactus grooming mitt. Best thing EVER. Rubs off sweat marks like nobody’s business on any part of the horse, and polishes. Acceptable to thin-skinned TBs.

  2. LL Bean boat & tote for grooming supplies. Still using the one I got in the mid-80s. You can’t kill them and they’re so much easier to carry and pack than wood or plastic totes.

  3. TIE (cheating, I know, but tough): Clothes Horse leg wraps, and Hill / Salmon goat hair and plaid brushes.

  1. Bentley Bars Soaps/Cremes in Tobacco Vanilla. The best saddle soap on the market & THE BEST scent. Also small business - winning!
  2. Cantack Half Pads. Thin enough not to modify saddle fit but great for adding a little extra between the saddle and the horse for impact. Also owned by a FANTASTIC family.

And then ya know, my Mademoiselle because it’s a cherished part of my family and “the” saddle for me.

1 - My knock off (Collegiate) PS of Sweden high jump bridle. Very impressed.
2 - My Jin and Lorenzini stirrups, I had such bad knee pain I couldnt manage more than a 20 minute ride at a time. Plus these are safe.
3 - Totally agree on the reins, I found a pair on a cheap bridle I bought and I love them, they are falling apart. They are rubber pimple grip ones, but not hard like the usual ones, buttery soft. I mean how hard it is to find the perfect reins? (turns out super hard)

Im glad to hear the no bow BOT wraps are good, I bought the, er, bow? style and they drive me absolutely insane

  1. My Antares. It’s the first saddle I’ve ever had that fits me perfectly as a rider, and I had it adjusted to fit my gelding too. I love that inanimate object more than is reasonable. The leather is just so pretty and soft and comfortable and man oh man it’s the best!
  2. Scrap towels. Not really a horse-specific purchase, but my horse reeeeeeally loves getting his face toweled off. I brought a few older ones to keep at the barn and he is a very happy camper for Towel Time when I hop off.
  3. My Mountain Horse Sovereign tall boots. The only ones that came tall and skinny enough for my chicken legs! They fit beautifully, are still in great shape after several years of use, polish up great, have a cool look to them, and were very reasonably priced. My brown ones are definitely showing more wear (I wear them to school in so they get MUCH more use), but the black ones look practically new. And dreamy.

Because of this thread, I went boot shopping today. I am in love with the Ariat Heritage II, but I cannot find them in my size; foot (10) ----- around the calf (slim) ----- high (tall). either local or in the big tack stores. So it looks like I will have to pay full price ($299.00). While the price is good, I always like to find a sale. Might anyone know of a sale on these boots? TIA.

I so want to try this but where is this small business located that shipping if $15? The moon!

Shadecloth rugs. They are so strong that Sim was not able to tear them off with his teeth. When he came you could not put a rug on him. Now he can also wear winter rugs.

They have holes in them so they are cool for hot horses in Summer.

Are they similar to these? Trying to translate from one country to another.

Big things: CWD saddle, Mountain Horse Sovereign brown boots (pretty and fit amazing!), Royal tack bridle (so cheap and yet looks very nice and soft)

Smaller things: BOT anything (sheet, quick wraps, baby pad, back brace, knee brace), leather dee ring bit from Sweet Billy Bits on Etsy, Thinline bareback pad (the only way I can ride bareback now)

Little things: Ben’s saddle soap (not stick or gross and smells awesome!), Chlorahexidine soap (works on EVERYTHING), and Underwood’s Medicine (healed up a wound 2-3xs as fast as vet had expected with little to no maintenance)

Yes that looks similar.

The nunn finer are like that! My all time favorite reins.

Dubarry boots

I gave in and ordered. Apparently $15 shipping doesn’t guarantee you non-melted conditioner so I couldn’t get exactly what I wanted but I’m excited to get what I did order

In Australia if you send a package to next door, even a small one will cost you at least $10.00 shipping, but I can get things on Ebay from China with free shipping and the product can only cost a couple of dollars.

Me too!

I’m not in Australia (per my profile info). Here in the US a small tub of tack cleaner can go anywhere in the country in 2-3 days in a USPS small flat rate box for $7. Less if it’s light enough for first class.

is it otherwise any good? I can’t get past their bizarre ordering process.

Hasn’t arrived yet. Did not enjoy the website, I hear you.

The cost to tear out the old wood floor in my 2 horse straight load with tack room, replace it with an aluminum floor and install WERM was $2600.
