I saw her that day in the hallway and she was devastated that MB really shot and almost killed Lauren. She was crying at the trial on the day she testified.

I mean, that’s usually why people file a civil suit; to get money. Which isn’t unreasonable at all in many cases.

I’m just not sure what kind of damages or losses can be claimed, exactly, in this case. I can think of a few (not saying whether or not I agree with the claims), but I’m not in the US and only have a vague idea how it goes re civil suits and damages. I believe you can do the whole “loss of income” thing but I don’t know what happens if you have no income from a job? Or if you can’t prove that this financially changed anything for you. I’m not sure how/if they put price tags on emotional trauma and whatnot.

In the US, you can sue for pain and suffering. Medical bills. Rehab bills. Loss of enjoyment because her riding is made more difficult by the scar tissue. She has plenty of basis to sue even without suing for loss of income.

You may not get much depending on the state. Plus her actions in causing the event will come into play. And being the previous jury found he was driven to insanity that doesn’t bode well.

His counterclaim however, with the posts and barefoot veiled ninja and admitting to destroy him will lead to compensation for the damage to his income and reputation.

How much money each party gets is up the the courts. There is no shame in suing for damages after someone has injured you. That’s what civil suits are for.

I agree that the harmful actions of each party will be examined in the legal reckoning.

This will be controversial- prepare yourself:

Just as “Let’s get rid of her”. “Let Ruth do it” can admit a wide range of interpretations, “Finish the bastard” has interpretations other than “I know MB is on the edge of a psychological breakdown, let’s deliberately push him over the edge.”

Texting to MHG ‘I’m going to get her banned from USEF for life’, on the other hand, is less ambiguous.

I think the jury determined he was not legally responsible for shooting her due to his insanity. I do not think they needed to determine the exact breakdown as to her quantitative role on “causing” the insanity, as distinct from his childhood abuse, his CPTSD and the other psychological stressors on him at the time, both financial and personal.

There is no proof of Let Ruth Do It but there is testimony, sworn testimony in front of a jury of Finish The Bastard. There is no proof of Let’s Get Rid Of Her but even if it was said that doesn’t imply murder and nor does Let Ruth Do It.

Of course LK would thinkbit does IF those words were spoken because that makes her seem more important in her mind.

As to what civil trials are for - gee thanks. I guess I dreamed working in civil court for 14 + years ending as the civil motion clerk. I had no idea.

And I have no doubt the jury believed LK caused the mental break just as people do here and even better as evidenced by the public at large as evidenced by both YouTube and Law & Crime commenters.

It has to bother you and your ilk that without fail 95% of the people here and commenting on the internet lay the blame entirely at LKs feet.

Just about everyone knows it. Just about everyone sees it.

Trying to divert attention to Vera or MHG is nothing more than a ruse to get attention and blame off of where it entirely belongs: with LK and everyone knows it.

The prosecutor established his case. The tapes would not have established it “more”.

Suppose for the sake of argument that the tapes are as damning as LK or Seeker suggests, and were introduced.

Do you think the verdict would have been “guilty” instead of NGRI?

Since the defense made its case on insanity, I think the verdict would have been NGRI on two counts, NG on trial counts, exactly the same, with or without tapes. Therefore, zero marginal value to the prosecution.

If those tapes were damning at all, it would go a long, long way to prove that MB did, in fact, know the difference between right and wrong, was able to formulate intent, and did understand the nature and consequences of his actions and was not, in fact, legally insane.

Yes that’s the most likely scenario actually. We had a long time poster here maintaining two different accounts with 2 different personalities who was quite abusive in one. They were busted when they finally mixed up their identites and banned.

Someone told me that they felt bad for Lauren and wish she had warned us. She said that she herself felt lucky to get out of there alive. I’m not “trying to divert” attention to MHG. I think MB was horribly stressed by threats that MHG would leave him if he did not “get rid” of LK, while he was reluctant to evict her and lose the income. If MHG was threatening to dump him, I can imagine horrible regret at leaving his wife for MHG.

I most certainly don’t believe 100% of the blame for MBs mental breakdown rests with LK!
