Can someone tell me what this device is?

Reminder, you didn’t need to know what this device is, which is the title of the thread. You knew exactly what it was, how it worked, and that it’s cruel. You even underhanded implied how much the rider sucked.

Did you mean to ask what it was called? Because I don’t think they sell such a thing - you have to fabricate it yourself.

@Mod1 - sorry to bother you, but can you please advise if I broke any rules on this thread?

Someone is mightily upset for some reason.

Is there a Full Moon?

Some of these threads lately are alittle … Wow.

Just asking for the mare down at the next stall.

I doubt you did, but seeing as how you participated in the LK thread I’ve linked, literally 3 posts the photo you cropped to make this post, I still question -

Why did you make this thread? And why are you suddenly so mortally offended that people remember where the device and photo came from?

Why do you care?

Methinks the lady dost protest too much. Perhaps she also uses this device and is outraged that someone is questioning its appropriateness.

So weird… the OP already answered that question for you.

I appreciate this thread as I hadn’t seen it elsewhere. We don’t all read all threads and sometimes we walk away from threads before the discussion has ended.

It’s more the outrage that someone remembered where the photo came from, and this bizarre obligation to stay hush hush about it… when the OP is the one talking about the “scuttlebutt” going around.

Totally strange!

And no, @DownYonder. I’m hesitant to use any device that won’t release in an emergency. I’m not the one here asking for details on the device, though. Again, strange!

And I answered that. Apparently we want to know where to get one, or what? Maybe it would contribute more to the scuttlebutt to call it by a name.

sigh maybe the original poster had forgotten about this device, maybe it popped into her head and thought, I will ask the people at COTH, but first I am going to edit the photo so the discussion does not delve down the endless pit of the rider.

You are the one who identified the rider, NOT the original poster. So if YOU had not identified the rider, chances are no one else would have.

So, in essence you should be scolding yourself.

I seems to me that your are the one that is going off the rails about where the photo came from.
To my eye it looks like a human is asking about a device that is being used on a horse in a photo. .

I mean gish, move along nothing to see here unless you want to understand what the tack is and what is used for, but you sure do seem to be trying to make it into something else.

Totally Strange, Indeed, I wonder if the heat is getting to some.

I don’t see the harm in IDing the rider, seeing as how the OP admits there’s STILL gossip going around about her, which sparked the thread. She also didn’t just post the picture and ask “what’s this thing called?”

She mentioned the fancy European trainer who winters in Welly.

She mentioned the rider is “ahem” incapable of riding a horse in a frame.

It was never just about the device, and its name. Call out the person and the trainer you are back-handed disparaging. Clearly OP believes themselves to be justified in being disgusted by this equipment, and I agree. I just don’t like the smoke and mirrors/hush hush - while not making it just about the device right from the start.

I just went through and read the thread again.

Someone suggested a neck stretcher. Deemed not a neck stretcher.

Then Vienna reins. No, not Vienna reins.

Lots of discussion describing the device.

Then detour talk of Germany, German trainers and experiences in Germany.

I talk about one of my favorite German stallions, Argentinus.

Anyways, the device was never identified.

I’d still love to know what it’s called and it’s suggested purpose. It is not evident in those threads. Read them twice now.

But the original poster did not however mention the riders name. So you are assuming the original poster had ulterior motives, which only the original poster knows, not you.

It was deemed in that thread to be a home-made device. Purpose is clear, execution and safety were clearly in question. Unanimously deemed cruel.

Welp, cat’s out of the bag. She didn’t need to mention any of the other details, and had she not I would not have pieced it together frankly.

and further more, why in God’s green earth did you feel it was your responsibility to ID the rider? The original poster felt no need.

Yes because you let the cat out.

Why not ID the rider? OP had her mind made up about the device already, was this some strange “pat myself on the back” thing?

This whole thread is just bizarre, when this was discussed extensively on the other thread with the OP participating.
