“I am not a good judge of work character and work ethic others, I guess.”
Oh goodness. We should all feel sorry for poor Kate, she was duped.
This is a a textbook case of projection and deflection, and it’s clear there’s zero remorse on her part.
What a disgusting human being.

It’s like the Handmaid’s Tale for Horses.
Many breeders take great care of the recipients they own or lease. But the industry, in general, is based upon mares that typically no one else wants. And it’s a very, very large industry….
I have no issue with that if these mares live out their final years well-cared for. That’s obviously not the case here.
The Handmare’s Tale.
I agree. Very, very few recipient mares from any clinic herd end up like that, unfortunately.
“2024 FL bar and also licensing in clinical mental health counseling here we come!”
A career in counseling for someone who says she’s a poor judge of people.
Now that’s gonna work well.
If the mare is well cared for, content, and not in pain from the lameness, then I have no real issue with it. It’s just that lameness and pain often go hand-in-hand.
It’s also a really poor business choice to starve your pregnant mares because you then stunt or harm your foals.
I only have had hands-on experience with one recip mare (not from EMS), and I was shocked at the condition she was in when she arrived. Quite thin, not very easy to handle, and super duper lame due to an abscess. I had assumed that with the amount of money that was involved in the whole ET ordeal, and the potential value of the foal she was carrying, that quality care would be a given for the recip mare throughout the entire process. I guess that isn’t the case throughout much of the industry. It’s eye-opening, that’s for sure.
And kind of crazy, considering pain causes stress, and stress affects the mare’s body and overall well-being, which in turn affects the development of the foal. Of course once the mare was picked up from the recip facility, we got the abscess fixed up and fed her well and she started putting on weight pretty quickly. But it still is crazy to think how poor her condition was for the first few weeks of the pregnancy (she stayed at the recip facility until she was confirmed safe in foal).
I am speechless. I hope she did go to jail and is never allowed near animals again.
Why am I remembering a thread from some years ago involving a place in Ocala where you could see the horses from
I 75 , it was a place that had lots of recip mares who looked absolutely horrid. The mares were seized and it was all a big ugly mess.
Was it the same place mentioned in this thread , EMC?
Was it the same place mentioned in this thread , EMC?
No, it’s EMS, not EMC, and it’s in central Missouri.
There was one on a place in Ocala . I’ll have to keep looking
Does anyone know if these horses are being fed? The sheriff was notified, yes?
I hope someone, perhaps the owner of the barn that Kate/Kathryn Shearer is renting stalls from is keeping an eye out for the animals? Not that they should have to, but honestly, this can’t be allowed to continue.

Possibly, but that’s not who Kate has used in the past, based on the screenshots.
The sheriff was notified, yes?
Wasn’t it KS who said that?
Yes, but she said that she called them, which I doubt.
I expect that she wouldn’t have mentioned the sheriff if someone hadn’t called them, but then again I am unfamiliar with the thought processes of people who hideously neglect horses.
I hope that the lady who picked up the foal called the sheriff.
I just wanted to say that the farm my trainer was at, also a breeding facility, has leased at least 20 different recip mares and not one was in poor condition. As fat as the donors? No- but in poor condition, no. I just don’t want EMS to get a bad rap- as they are diligent in trying to have the healthiest recip mares as possible.
Carry on.

KS is not the only breeder who has received recip mares from EMS in deplorable conditions… The difference is most other breeders actually feed and care for them.
